The WINGATE WRITING PRIZE is an annual U.S. award. The 2024 prize will be in fiction


Submissions for the inaugural 2024 prize open from August 12, 2024, and close September 19, 2024.

2024 Contest Rules

  • Submission dates (firm): August 12 – September 19, 2024

  • $20 entry fee (see "Add to Cart" button below)

  • One $400 Award and one $100 Honorable Mention.

  • Winners will be announced via email and social marketing (Facebook, X, Pinterest, Instagram, and LinkedIn) October 31st.

  • There is no theme for this year’s entries.

  • Authors submit only ONE entry.

  • Submissions of more than one entry can result in disqualification.

  • When the contest opens, entries are to be submitted via email to susan (at) susanwingate (dot) com

  • The WINGATE WRITING PRIZE does not accept previously published material.

 

Guidelines for Submissions

  • The 2024 category will be for SHORT FICTION. This may include excerpts from previously unpublished novels as well as short stories. 

  • The 2025 category will be for SHORT NONFICTION. Again, this may include excerpts from previously unpublished novels as well as short stories. 

  • Submit either a Word docx or PDF

  • Double-spaced, 12 pt., Times New Roman font

  • Send entries with attached Word docx or PDF to susan(at)susanwingate(dot)com

  • This is NOT a blind contest

  • The subject line MUST INCLUDE THE EXACT WORDS and IN QUOTATIONS. Any variation will be result in the deletion of your email. Simply copy and paste this into your subject line.

Category Descriptions

Short Fiction (from 1,000 to 2,500 words): We’re looking for engaging, original literary short fiction that will captivate the reader. Vivid language, beautiful writing, and original ideas are appreciated. Make sure your work is as edited and complete as possible before submitting.

Creative Nonfiction (from 1,000 to 2,500 words): We’re looking for true stories, written beautifully, based on the author’s experiences, in the form of personal memoirs, crossover pieces that push the distinction between real and not real, and literary and creative memoir.

Judge

Susan Wingate is a multi-award-winning, Amazon bestseller who writes both fiction and nonfiction. She loves reading other writers’ work and loves books. She has judged several literary contests in the past for the AZ Authors Association and the American Christian Women's Association.
