Somebody Stop Me

"She dropped it two years after Covid sunk its ugly teeth into the neck of the world."

That's a great line for a new story I may or may never write. I'm talking, of course, about my podcast, Dialogue: Between the Lines. Some of you may remember it. Others may not. Either way, I produced a weekly podcast for twelve years, one where I interviewed and featured other authors' work. I thoroughly enjoyed speaking with most my guests. Started in 2010 and ended 2022.

I started Dialogue with one of my dearest writer friends as co-host, Joshua Graham, a talented and thought-provoking author of thrillers. We used a platform called BlogtalkRadio. Just this year, BlogTalk notified users (past and present) that they would be ending their service.

By 2013, or there around, Joshua's life became too busy to co-host the show so, I continued on without him for another nine years.

I met so many interesting and awesome authors. Authors like David Morrell (Rambo), Frank Peretti (The Oath), Jerry Jenkins (Left Behind) , Elizabeth George (Something to Hide), and Tess Gerritsen (books based on the Rizzoli & Iles series), and so many others I can't recall.

A weekly show does that to the memory, guests sadly fall into a flotsam of incredible writers and talks. But each show left an indelible mark on me some in small ways others in enormous ways.

The ease of podcasting now brings me to this latest consideration: I may resurrect Dialogue to the better and simpler platform of Substack. To this, I say, Somebody Stop Me!

Of course, I'm kidding. And this time will be slightly different. We'll still host authors and their books but we're hoping to make it a more inclusive show featuring fiction and nonfiction but also people who write for other markets like digital markets and for film. I hope to host experts in the business to talk about craft, marketing, and the overall landscape of publishing. That means more agents and publishers, book marketers and publicists, instructors and educators, as well as authors.

I expect this braver show to be lively and informational instead of one that simply pushes books. Not that that's bad but after a while of asking the same and similar questions of each guest for twelve years, it sort of hummed at the same speed and, honestly, I felt it was starting to get boring. I can understand why Pat Sajak retired after so many years hosting Wheel of Fortune. But I digress...

The new show will have a new name but similar and is as yet in its infancy stages while we consider its purpose and longevity.

Anyway, I am hoping for great things for this new show. Hope is a given with any new venture.

God bless you all!
